Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before We’re Born?

29 May

When difficult or traumatic experiences occur in our lives, we naturally wonder, “Why did this happen? What does it mean?” Often, such experiences may appear not to have any particular meaning; they may seem to be nothing more than purposeless suffering. Yet, in my years as a spiritual author and teacher, I have found that not only are our greatest challenges rich with meaning and purpose, but also that very often we ourselves planned those experiences before we were born. I explored this premise in detail in my first book, Your Soul’s Plan, and I do so again in my new book, Your Soul’s Gift: The Healing Power of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born. In this article I would like to share with you some of the healing and empowering insights in my new book.

First, a word about my methodology. In both books I interviewed people who had experienced common life challenges like physical illness, the death of a loved one, addiction, or mental illness. Those individuals then had sessions with gifted mediums and channels in which I asked Spirit, “Was this experience planned before birth, and if so, why?” In my books I present all the wisdom that then came forward. My intentions are to help people see the deeper meaning of their life challenges and, in so doing, heal from them. It’s important to understand here that painful experiences can catalyze profound healing for our souls if we, the incarnate personalities, respond to those challenges with love (including self-love) and an open heart, and if we learn the lessons offered by these experiences.

Let’s take an example. In the Suicide chapter in Your Soul’s Gift, I share the story of Carolyn, whose only child Cameron suicided shortly after he graduated from high school. Carolyn and I had a channeling session in which we spoke with Jeshua (Jesus). Jeshua began by telling us that suicide is never planned prior to birth as a certainty, but it is often planned as a possibility and sometimes as a high probability, as was the case with Cameron. In other words, Cameron knew that he was taking on so much in this lifetime that a suicide was likely.

Since Carolyn has no memory of her pre-birth plan (just as most of us don’t), she quite naturally felt that she had failed Cameron. She was filled with guilt and self-blame, wondering what she could have done. It was then that Jeshua shared with us one of the most important, startling, and powerful pieces of information I’ve come across in my research. He told us, “Every suicide preventable by outside forces was indeed prevented.” What he meant is that if the suicidal person has the slightest openness to changing their mind, the Universe will stage an intervention. It could be something as simple as a bird flying by and distracting the person, or something as dramatic as an angel assuming human form and physically interceding. If you have lost a loved one to suicide, know this: There was literally nothing you could or should have done to save them. You are not to blame. You are not at fault. You did not fail them.

In another chapter I explore the pre-birth planning of miscarriage and abortion. Here, I share the story of Rebecca, who was devastated by a miscarriage. Rebecca felt she had killed her unborn child, Calvin, by doing some heavy lifting that led to the miscarriage. In a channeling session, Rebecca spoke with Calvin. We learned that in their last past life together, Rebecca had been male and the commanding officer of an army fort in the old West. Calvin was a subordinate officer and also a close friend. When the fort was attacked, Rebecca (as the commanding officer) sent all the soldiers, including Calvin, out to defend it. The soldiers were massacred. Rebecca blamed herself for her friend’s death and was never able to forgive herself.

After that lifetime was over, Rebecca decided she wanted to work on the lesson of self-forgiveness. She therefore planned before she was born to experience a miscarriage, knowing that she would blame herself and thus have the opportunity to do what she could not do before – forgive herself. Having set that plan, she then asked Calvin if he would be the soul whose energy was associated with her unborn child. In service to and out of love for her, he agreed.

For a very long time, Rebecca was unable to heal from the miscarriage. She was sad and defeated, filled with doubt and self-loathing. Yet, when she learned that she had planned the miscarriage, that realization “changed my life,” she said. “It brought me home to myself. That’s a journey I could not have made on my own.” Such deep healing often occurs when someone comes into an understanding of their pre-birth plan.

Your Soul’s Gift also looks at the pre-birth planning we do with our beloved animal companions. In the Pets chapter, I share the poignant story of Marcia, who plans before she’s born to be a dwarf. Today, as a grown woman, she stands four feet six inches tall. Marcia knew that dwarfism would be a tremendous challenge, particularly during childhood, when her peers at school would tease and ostracize her. With that in mind, she planned to have many unconditionally loving animals in her childhood and throughout her life – dogs, cats, horses, even a rooster named Crooked Beak. She also planned to have the ability to communicate with them telepathically.

As a child, when she came home from school in tears, Marcia’s dog Dusty would say to her, “It’s okay. To me you’re perfect.” And her palomino, Cheetah, would tell her, “It doesn’t matter what they [kids at school] say. Look what you and I can do together!  Come on! Let’s go!” Choosing to receive unconditional love from animals was a wise decision in Marci’s pre-birth planning session.

Too, I explore some of the most traumatic experiences a person can have while in body. There are chapters specifically about the planning of both incest and rape. I agonized for a long time about whether to include such subjects in my book, as I most certainly did not want to re-traumatize anyone or cause those who have had experienced incest or rape to feel that they are to blame. No one who has had such experiences is to blame for them. Ultimately, I felt that the wisdom in these chapters would offer healing, and I decided to share what I had found.

Why would anyone plan before birth to experience incest or rape? A fundamental spiritual truth is that there is no unexpressed consciousness. In other words, whatever is within you, whether at the conscious or subconscious level, will be expressed in the outer world. The outer mirrors the inner. Almost all of us have had past lives in which we came to believe things about ourselves that our souls know to be untrue. Two of the most common false beliefs are that we are worthless and that we are powerless. If you are someone who has one or both of these false beliefs within your consciousness, they will outpicture in the world around you, sometimes in the form of traumatic experiences like incest or rape.

The purpose of this outpicturing is not to punish you. On the contrary, the purpose is to bring your false beliefs to the light of conscious awareness, where they may then be healed. This is a particularly difficult type of life plan, but within it is the potential for profound healing.

We can, if we like, deny that the Earth is round, but that will not make it flat. It will still be round. Similarly, we can deny that souls sometimes (though certainly not always) plan before birth to experience trauma like incest and rape, but that will not mean that such planning doesn’t occur. It does. For millennia humanity has learned through suffering. If we want to move beyond the learning-through-suffering paradigm, then we need to take a courageous, unflinching look at what lays within our consciousness.

And then heal.

This book is one of the most amazing book in the world… thanks for writing this…i guess it will take years for humankind to regain access to the “science of the soul”… and get more proof about the subject you are dealing with…

    Hi Rob,
Everything you write is smack on. If people understood how is so important. How the stage is already set they simply only be life and life through. The doing is already done. Simply be their beautiful, powerful, beloved children of God!
The only doing that need be, is love. Yes, for now need to work but not be a slave. Look at their work as an artistic flair and love it too.
We’d get a lot more relaxed! And have a deeper understanding of what really matters. We’ed also be far more aware that others are simply playing a role. Be able to forgive others more easily. Be grateful for what they have instead of focusing what they don’t.
If they knew how just be-ing who they are and so dearly loved by God. They do not have to earn what He gives already! LOVE. Pure, no conditions, Love.
If they knew how much they are Love too. That within is a powerful, loveing Being, of no conditions either! How we don’t come to Earth to live the life of Riley. We come in where there is friction and bodies, yet can love their selves and each other. Be compassionate and supportive too. Did I mention Love? ; )
Thank you again for writing your eye opening books.

Hello Robert, first let me say I read “Courageous Souls” before it was changed to “Your Soul’s Plan” and anyway you call a rose, it will smell sweet. I can say this book brought me so much information in a time which was really needed. The seeker seeks and the door is open and when my door was open, it opened to your amazing book! I can not express enough gratitude for the information and the tremendous amount of work which must have been to create such knowledge. So thank you. I am constantly recommending it and now your latest book, too. I am a teacher of Metaphysics and a Psychic Medium, so for me to gain so much from such a book, says a lot about what the book shares and enlightens all. Many blessings for all your work and imagine a world where all read this book? No victims, no blame, progressing the soul…Heaven on Earth!

Thank you so much for what you do. I got your book “Your Soul’s Plan two years ago, and I had to read every chapter carefully so it took some time to read, while I was meditating, filled with awe over the beautiful and touching testimonies. That book follows me now and then when I go somewhere. These thoughts are not so new for me, as a former Christian and now embracing Judaism, I have searched through the scriptures and I might have found some medieval sources, so who knows, perhaps one day I will put it together on my blog here on WordPress.

I earlier in my life became interested of the so called paranormal, but soon found out that it is not so paranormal, (no ghosts) on the contrary, it is a part of us being a spiritual being. These thoughts have followed me since my teenage years, I am 50 now. So, again, thanks and good luck, we keep in touch.

Thanks for checking out my blog. I experienced, in hypnosis, just what you write about; that we make a plan for our soul before we are born. At the time I was struggling with one of the life lessons, or challenges, that I set up for myself. Having it revealed to me during that session was more than helpful in how I now look at my life. Thank you for writing your books. They need to be required reading for everyone!

The main reason that I needed to dig deeper on the subject matter of “a pre-plan life” before incarnation or reincarnation to become a human being—is because “I am not convinced at all that our lives in every single and detailed aspect: from anything to everything that would happen to us including everyone (especially the indecent and/or malevolent beings) that we would encounter in our paths—are Being Openly, Completely, and Mercifully Shown and/or Made Known to Us PRIOR to we choose the life that we would be incarnating or reincarnating into as a human being!”

Even the spirit guides or council themselves may not even know exactly and completely what could and what would happen to us during the “pre-plan life” meeting; if they did and have, why would they still encourage us (some of us) in “choosing a severe and outrageous life in terms of having to undergo Persistent Merciless Harms, Wounds, Torments, etc. as a result of Others’ Harmful, Destructive, and Malevolent Actions toward Us and toward Our Well-being!” And why would we still have chosen that specific life-plan had we known what would and could happen to us PRIOR to incarnation or reincarnation!

The truth of matter is the Soul’s Core Essence Do Not Change; at least not change from Good Deeds or Good Cores into Harmful, Devious, and Destructive Cores! For example, a murderer’s mentality and core essence CANNOT be and SHALL NOT has the exact or similar Essence of a Person who has been harmed and wounded or being murdered! Moreover, a Harm-Doer’s Essence also CANNOT be and SHALL NOT be the same or similar as a Healer or Constructor for Humanity or Planet Earth; Good is Not Evil and Evil is not Good; Knowledge is not Ignorance and Ignorance is not Knowledge; Wisdom is not Self-induced Blindness & Deafness and Self-induced Blindness & Deafness are not Wisdom; and so on and so forth!

Since the Core Essences of the Extremely Different types of Souls or Components (see above) are Arose from Very Different Sources, Elements, or Creations, there is simply no way that a Soul which already carried an Imprint of its Core Essence from a previous lifetime(s)—would and could switch drastically to a totally opposite side of Essence in this lifetime. This does not happen according to the nature of Ethics, Justice, Peace, Wisdom, Knowledge, Order, Honor, Harmony, Healing, and Beauty and according to the nature of Soul Essence!

Finally, most Lessons are Not necessary nor Voluntarily/Willingly Wanted, especially the Critical Lessons that are for others (i.e. the Harm-Doers and Tormenters) to learn rather than for us to learn! Yet, society and many so-called reincarnation/incarnation writings simply are Distorting the Nature of Truth, Wisdom, Harmony, Healing, Beauty, etc. by keep telling us that everything that happened to us is a Lesson—when this is not True and Cannot Be True!

So if I chose some chronic illness to learn humility in life, and I have learned from it and am done with the lesson, can I now undo the illness, for it serves no further lesson, and I still have many years to live. What is your take on how this can be done?

    • yoursoulsplan November 14, 2016 at 5:32 pm #

Thank you for your question. Once the lesson is learned, the experience either ends or comes back around in some form so that you can make sure you got the lesson. Yours is a good question to pose to the Council of Elders in a Between Lives Soul Regression (see the BLSR page of the store of my web site). The Council can tell you what the lessons are and if you have mastered them.

      • impotentMale November 14, 2016 at 5:36 pm #

I get confused hearing this sort of reply (also from reading the books on the topic) where you mention talking to the Council of Elders in the present tense. I thought hypnosis is only recollection of what was already experienced, and there is nothing happening “live”. Then what in the world means to speak to the elders and get a live reply, etc?

      • yoursoulsplan November 14, 2016 at 5:43 pm #

You speak live with the Council during a BLSR. Please visit the BLSR page here for more information:!/Between-Lives-Soul-Regression/p/17554196/category=4045258

Hello (reposting as I am not sure if the previous post was successful – can ignore if duplicate)

I really enjoyed the article – and I do intend to read the book for sure. One question that does pop up – if we do plan our lives in advance – why would someone choose to be born in a really disadvantaged race or a marginalized society where they feel powerless? What could they learn by being born in the slums of one of the many continents, as a disadvantaged and marginalized race or society – that they could not learn by choosing to be born in a more developed part of the world/race from where they could create more opportunities. Not trying to offend any one country or race – but trying to understand the concept better.

This is very intriguing to me as it may hold the answers to a lot of questions I have been struggling with.

    Thank You !!

Thank you for this very good question. In my second book Your Soul’s Gift, there’s an entire chapter about the pre-birth planning of poverty. I suggest reading that chapter. Blessings, Rob

Appreciate your response. Can I go straight to the second book “Your Soul’s gif – or should I first read “Your Soul’s Plan” ? Does the second book incorporate some of the teaching from the first book?

      • yoursoulsplan February 25, 2019 at 5:24 pm #

Yes, you can go straight to Your Soul’s Gift. 🙂
